Brew Your Best Cup of Coffee

Step-by-Step Guide: Home Brew Drip Coffee

Brew cafe-quality coffee at home with these easy step-by-step instructions. A few small tweaks to your routine will take your coffee experience to the next level and ensure the most flavorful, balanced cup every time.

You will need: scale, coffee of your choice, brewer, water, grinder, filters

For a full pot of coffee, weigh out 800g of water + 50g of coffee based on a brew ratio of 17:1.

Step 1: Weigh the water.
Weigh 800g (1ml = 1g) of water and pour into brewer.

Step 2: Prepare the filter.
Fold and pre-wet the filter. Place into the brewer.

Step 3: Weigh the coffee.
Weigh out 50g of whole bean coffee.

Step 4: Grind the coffee.
Set your grinder to medium coarse grind setting. Pour 50g of whole bean coffee into your grinder. We recommend using a Baratza Encore grinder.

Step 5: Pour ground coffee into your filter and brew.

Step 6: Taste and Enjoy!

Pro Tips:

  • Weigh your coffee after grinding to make sure you haven’t lost a significant amount (add more if needed)

  • Use an adjustable burr grinder

  • Use your coffee within a month of the roast date (tastes best 5-15 days off roast)

  • Use a pre-wet setting on your brewer if possible

  • Grind slightly finer for small amounts, coarser for large amounts.
